First, a breif description of the different types of Tomatoes:
Cordon - Known as a standard type as these are grown in the trdaitional way; train up a cane or line, and remove the side shoots. Remove the top growing point when the plant has produced the required number of fruit trusses.
Determinate - These are more commonly known as bush types. As the more common name implies, these types should be left to produce bushy plants, and the side shoots should be left on for this purpose. The majority of bush types are Cherry-fruited, and need little or no training. Some of the varieties within this type of tomato, are excellent for use in hanging baskets.
Semi-determinate - As the name suggests, these types are somewhere between the two mentioned above. Training is similar to the standard Cordon types, except that several side shoots should be allowed to grown from the main stem, and trained accordingly.
Round fruiting - Traditional tomato-shaped fruits.
Beefsteak fruiting - Large (very) fruits, which usually have grooves down the sides.
Plum fruiting - Plum-shaped fleshy fruits, ideal for ragu/pasta sauces.
Cherry fruiting - Small fruits, usually sweeter, and produced in trusses en masse.
